Should cancer research be a global priority or are there more important global issues to pay attention to?

Cindy Crawford believes that cancer research should be a global priority, and the majority of people that answered Crawford's question support her (but mostly based for Crawford, only the US economic and political issues, and their own personal, and even biased, experiences). But in my belief, cancer research should not even come close to being a global priority.

So my question is what issue(s) do you think should be a GLOBAL PRIORITY? (Read the capitalized words carefully, and not based on US conditions, and be as neutral as possible). If you still believe cancer research should be a global priority, explain why.

Should cancer research be a global priority or are there more important global issues to pay attention to?
Granted, cancer is a pain that we need to lament off soon, but considering what cancer is, mutations during cell division, a cure would be hard. Instead, perhaps more needs to be done to prevent certain things that will, if continued as its current state, will make the problem of cancer minute in a few years. Global Warming (GLOBAL), which will drown or dry us to death, depending on your physical location.
Reply:now the research on cancer is far developed. but it needs more.

but my view that threre are so many problem is there to be in front like AIDS ,so priorities should given according to the condition.

so it should be next to AIDS
Reply:It should, because cancer effects people all over the world-the same as aids and other diseases.
Reply:hmmm... i am convinced that the powers that be know what causes cancer...... so really the focus should be on cancer prevention...

how to prevent cancer?

eat organic, demand pesticide use be banned all over the world...

demand carcinagens be on ingrediant lables ...

people need to demand healthy foods and products...

are there cancer causing ingrediants in your food?your lotions? you hair dyes? your smelly candles? is it in fabreeze? is it in plastic?

...ask questions.....

i was diagnosed with skin cancer and my dr did not want to talk about healing from the inside out and causes of cancer and ultimately prevention...

he wanted to talk surgery...

money money money.....
Reply:No, people need to realize that God has the ultimate power over our lives so he'll always look over us. We shouldn't be depending on scientists to solve all/any of our problems because God will take care of us.
Reply:Agree. Cancer is "only" responsible for 6% of the deaths. Even so it's a leading cause, so it must be taken very seriously, but the reasons for cancer can be found in other major problems, such as pollution. First the conditions should be established to prevent cancer and other diseases, including quality health care all over the world. This includes "making poverty history", peace... etc.
Reply:Who the @#$% cares about what Cindy Crawford has to say about global priorities, why is she more imporant than anyone else in deciding what global priorities wo whould or should not have. So, no I do not think that Cancer should be a global priority at all. I am a cancer researcher and understand the fundamental importance of doing cancer research. I think alot of funds annd time should be addressed in understanding many diseases including cancer. I think we are doing just fine the way we are progressing. Cancer is way too complicated to solve easily and will take many many years to understand and many cancers will never be cured. Global priorities on the other hand should not focus on rich world issues like cnacer. I think feeding people, giving them clean water, treating them for funal, viral, parasitic, and bacterial life trheatening infections and NOT cancer should be a global priority. These people dying of starvation and poor medical conditions should be allowed to live long enough to even get cancer. For now, cancer hsould be placed behind the things that are killing people earlier and not ahead so as to keep American alive longer (e.g. Past 80 years). Sorry Mrs. Crawford, but thats why you are a model and should not represent the average Americans ideas.
Reply:Yes i think it should be a high priority, however someone told me that there has been a ton of money raised to help find a cure but most of it goes to big pharmaceutical companies when the answer may lie withing the very foods we eat.
Reply:No we Americans have much more important things to do then

weste our time taking part in saving lives. I mean who is gonna

invade the middle east, who is gonna cause global warming,

who is gonna talk bs to the whole world. ("lol")
