Donating for the cancer research ? But who do I help by doing this ?

Donating money for the research of a cure of a disease like cancer is surly good... but who do I really help? If I help smokers by doing it .... whats the sense ? By the way , how do U get cancer and how many persons that have cancer are/were smokers ? I wish that every smoker gets cancer because they deserve it ! I'm not gonna start donating to help you !!!

Donating for the cancer research ? But who do I help by doing this ?
I am a cancer patient who has never smoked or drank. I would not wish this disease on a fly. I do not like cigarette smoke but....many older adults who now have cancer from smoking were unaware of the dangers when they started. Cigarette companies hid the dangers to make money. Wishing people would get cancer and die just may backfire on you. Cancer doesn't care if you smoked or not; it will even choose children. I sat next to them and have seen their suffering. Although you wish others ill health, I wish you well. I hope you live long enough to find compassion for others. Be angry at cancer, not the people who have it. God bless.
Reply:First, it is really selfish to say that you won't help a certain group of people like that. If you want to help the cancer research then do it in a greatful manner.

Second, if your self had ever gone through cancer or even watched someone else go through it, you would never wish it on anyone, especially not because of a habbit they are addicted to. If you don't like smokers/smoking then you should lobby for no smoking laws and even laws banning tobacco all together. I wonder if it would work any better than the alcohol prohibition. lol.

Furthermore, not all cancer patients smoke, and not all smokers have cancer. Smoking is not the only thing that causes cancer.

Pretty much anything can cause cancer, depending on each person's exposure amount and genetics. For example, one person may get breast cancer because of genetics, one person might get leukemia bc of exposure to harmful chemicals in the work place, a coal miner may get black lung which is a cancer, and so forth and so on. Sweet 'n Low has caused cancer in mice when given at huge quantities. The survivors of the atomic bomb got cancer from the radiation. The list goes on and on.

If you really wish to donate to help research go with a reputable company, such as cancer.org (the cancer society). Or there are places where you can donate for research to a paticular med center or group, like breast cancer has several of its own donation sites, as does the leukemia and lymphoma society, as does your local hospital.
Reply:Think of all of the children with cancer, and how thru research many of them have lived, you would be helping children like them. If you do not want to donate directly to research, find a child that is in the hospital being treated , do something special for them and their family.

one more thing not all people that have cancer are or were smokers..cancer is a deadly killer of men, women and children it does not pick and choose. It just hits a person and the next thing you know they are gone. My husband died only 3 months after we found out he had it, maybe more research and cures might have helped him, be with me a little longer..but without research how will they find a cure? Even if it is saving the life of a smoker...
