Are you for or against stem cell research for a cure for cancer and why?

The reason I am asking this is because I am writing a research paper for college on the topic. I am a Catholic and also conservative (normally against stem cell research) but my mother had cancer when I was younger so of course if she didn't have to go through what she did I should love the idea. I was just wondering other people's opinions as a sort of "poll" type-source, unscholarly of course.

Are you for or against stem cell research for a cure for cancer and why?
Completely in favor of this research for cancer, parkinson's, and any other diseases that it might help cure.
Reply:I am not against research. Those are against, are called dogmatic. It is good or bad may be debatatble.
Reply:IF YOU ARE FOR STEM CELL RESEARCH, I AM NOT SURE HOW YOU COULD HAVE VOTED FOR YOUR SO CALLED RELIGOUS PRESIDENT,IF YOU ARE CATHOLIC,PLEASE NAME ANY THING THAT BUSH HAS DONE THAT HAS ANY SIMILARITY TO WHAT JESUS WOULD DO ....ARE YOU AWARE THAT IRAN HAS HAD STEM CELL RESEARCH STUDIES IN THE ADVANCED STAGES AND HAVE ACTUALLY CURED PEOPLE OF BLINDNESS..PLEASE IF YOU ARE FOR STEM CELL RESEARCH VOTE FOR SOMEONE THAT HAS MORE KNOWLEDGE OF REAL LIFE AND NOT A SO CALLED CONSERVATIVE THAT HAS SPENT BILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO DESTROY PEOPLES LIVES...........AND DONT FORGET ABOUT THE TERRI SCHIAVO CASE WHERE JEB TOOK HER LIFE SUPPORT AWAY.........SAVE YOURSELF AND OUR COUNTRY DONT VOTE REPUBLICAN......
Reply:I am for it.

Diseases such as cancer and Parkinsons cause millions to suffer and die worldwide. Anything that could prevent this suffering would be a god-send.

There is a great misperception about where stem cells for research would come from. The proposed research source for stem cells is the left-over embryos from in-vitro fertilization in the freezers of fertility clinics throughout the U.S. These clinics usually produce more embryos than a couple need to conceive a child, because the the danger that the first embryo that is implanted will be miscarried. These embryos have been in cold storage for years, will never be implanted in anyone, and probably would not be viable even if they were. There is nothing there that would ever even potentially become human life. These embryos will eventually be thrown away. Why not use them for research that may save lives.
Reply:Well if you think about it-even though its "morally" wrong and all to abort a baby, the fact is a lot of girls still do it. So why is it wrong to try to help a life with one of which would have been thrown away regaurdless.....
Reply:I am all for adult stem cell research for a cure for cancer.

Embryonic stem cells - well, all they have done so far is create tumors

Give me all the thumbs down you want - im still right
Reply:I am for it. I'm not sure how any one can be against it, as embryos are not humans yet, that is why they are called embryos. Human beings are not strapped for procreation, so why not utilize what scientific knowledge has provided us.
Reply:I am against it and the reason is very simple, morbid sounding but simple...if one thing in this life doesn't kill you, something else will. Everybody that is born is going to die, and that is a fact!
Reply:Because of your religion I am willing to express this concern. Did Jesus used stem cells to cure people? The one I remember is saliva and mud to cure the blind, and WORDS to wake the dead, and anger to castigate the business in the temple, Will you agree that what he said is true, "We can all do what he did".
Reply:Also a Catholic and definitely for!

It's not as if you are obtaining the stems cells specifically for research- they are readily available.
Reply:I'm against it because I'm against taking life under all circumstances... besides stem-cell research has no promises... in ten years and thousands of fetus's aborted later, we still probably wont be any closer to cures for cancer or Parkinson's... everybody acts like it guaranteed that we'll cure all the worlds illnesses. but is not
