Please donate to Breast Cancer Research?

Hi my name is Samantha and I am 19. Breast Cancer Fund is holding their 12th Annual Peak Hike. I will be doing the 11.5 mile hike for breast cancer research at Mt. Tamalpais in Marin Ca. This event is to take place October 14th, 2007. I am asking for Donations.

Prevention Starts Here - with your support. The Breast Cancer Fund is making groundbreaking efforts to safeguard the health of our friends and families. As breast cancer rates escalate, we are continually exposed to known or suspected cancer-causing chemicals in our food, water, air and the everyday products we use in our homes. Chemicals which were banned decades ago persist in our bodies, a shocking reminder of the environmental legacy we live with today. Your donation today allows us to demand a new approach to corporate accountability and and chemical regulation that will protect our health and prevent breast cancer and other diseases. Go to this webpage to donate, below!

Please donate to Breast Cancer Research?
I think it is GREAT what you are doing. If there were more people in your age group that are aware of cancer, it would be so good. I was your age, 19, when diagnosed with Breast cancer. Thank YOU for what you are doing.

Would it be ok if I posted your link on my MySpace page? You can check it out at

Reply:While I commend you for your efforts in trying to help fund cancer research, this is not an appropriate venue to request donations.

There are many forms of cancer, all requiring research.

If anyone visiting this site has funds they are in a position to donate, I suggest they send it direct to either the Anti-Cancer Council, or local equivalent or the local chapter of their prefered cancer research fund.
Reply:I agree with Panda 100%. By earmarking money for one type of research, many will die needlessly. My wife did not die from breast cancer, but she is every bit as dead.
Reply:Although this is a good charity to donate to, please be aware that there are over 199 other types of cancer that are underfunded and children and other people are dying due to lack of research. Be aware that all types of cancer demand research dollars and not just breast cancer.

The other point to make is that despite the persistant belief that chemicals in food, water, air and products are the 'cause' of cancer . . thats not quite true. Breast cancer and all cancer is an ancient disease that was around long before the Industrial revolution. The Egyptians in 1600 BC were the first to write about breast tumors and mummified remains reveal breast cancer existed at that time.

ACS: The History of Cancer

http://www.cancer.org/docroot/CRI/conten...

"Cancer has afflicted humans throughout recorded history. It is no surprise that from the dawn of history doctors have written about cancer. Some of the earliest evidence of cancer is found among fossilized bone tumors, human mummies in ancient Egypt, and ancient manuscripts. Bone remains of mummies have revealed growths suggestive of the bone cancer, osteosarcoma. In other cases, bony skull destruction as seen in cancer of the head and neck has been found.

Our oldest description of cancer (although the term cancer was not used) was discovered in Egypt and dates back to approximately 1600 B.C. The Edwin Smith Papyrus, or writing, describes 8 cases of tumors or ulcers of the breast that were treated by cauterization, with a tool called "the fire drill." The writing says about the disease, "There is no treatment."

Humans have always dealt with cancer long before there was any type of corporations on this Earth.

Please also donate to cure all childhood cancer:

Please also help fund Sarcoma Research (the forgotten cancer) as that it is a cancer that affects children, adolescents, and young adults.

Reply:Congratulations on taking on a cancer.

However, with all due respect, if I hear one more plea for Breast Cancer funding, I think I will throw up.

There are so many other types of cancer that deserve research and funding that aren't getting it.

With all due respect to breast cancer patients, survivors and those lost, I have brain cancer and the last time I looked, I needed my brain more than you need your breasts.
