You would do an undergrad major in a biological science then apply to a grad school program you are interested in. The approach to research of this type varies enormously so your interests and talents will come into play. For instance, botanists contribute to the effort with their intricate knowledge of plant life. Or you might even be a computational scientist, as a lot of the cancer effort focuses on modeling techniques these days -- that is, virtual labs done through computer simulation.
Reply:Most medical researchers earn an MD degree, then go on to a PhD in some specialized field of biology. Therefore you want to major as an undergrad in something that will lead to med school. Med schools want well-rounded students. So either major in pre-med and take a wide range of electives, or major in anything but use electives to get all the science courses that pre-med would require.
Reply:Biology A pre med major

Then Medical school with the emphesis on Research Medicine.
