Where can I find information and prevention methods on Breast Cancer?

Breast Cancer Statistics among women, research, cures, different associations that raise money for breast cancer research, and what can I do to help.

Where can I find information and prevention methods on Breast Cancer?
OCTOBER is BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH.

See my blog at - http://360.yahoo.com/jayaramanms...

There is not particular way to prevent Breast cancer and you should have mammogram and other screening tests done every year to ensure that it is detected in case if it comes.

You can go through the following website where from you will get lot of information on BREAST CANCER -

I think these websites will give you a fair idea and details about Breast cancer. Best of luck-
Reply:Go to breastcancer.com. There are hundreds of sites. One thing I found out is that estrogen and alcohol are causes of cancer. You can find out lots of information. Check out mammosite.com for the latest in radiation treatments. It is fantastic.

Reply:Did you know that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month?

In my opinion, the American Cancer Society is the best place to start. There is so much valuable information there. I lost family member to breast cancer as well as other types of cancer. I do not have cancer, but I do have to be watched carefully and I am young. It is one of the leading causes of deaths among women. At The American Cancer Society, you can join, donate, participate, volunteer in your community and so much more. You can also check with your local oncologist or hospitals to help or volunteer. It is great that you want to help. Make sure that you keep in touch with your own health as well. It is very important.
Reply:Go to breastcancer.com

www.google.com - just type in what you are looking for
Reply:Go to: Revolution.com or the local health department or your doctors office. Any one of these can help you or you can write the National Cancer Center .

I Need to do some research about oral cancer on sloan Kittering web site?

I need to get some information on problems with the jaw muscles after treatment and remission. My husbands jaw locks and he has trouble chewing and opening his mouth.

I Need to do some research about oral cancer on sloan Kittering web site?
my husband has oral cancer and has had his tongue and jaw bone and floor of his mouth removed he was suppose to work his jaw bone to keep it from locking up he now has titanium holding the bone graft together they should have told you about this mine has had radiation already and was suppose to keep doing the jaw moving to keep it from locking if you need more help drop me an email been doing this since 08/06
Reply:That sounds like tmj, my mom has it and the doctor gives her soma's to relax her jaws.
Reply:It's not usually the muscles that are involved; the problem can be due to surgery and radiation. The radiation will cause reduced jaw movement and reduced ability to close the jaw.

Call the speech pathology department to ask about rehabilitation for oral cancer patients. Speech pathologists in teaching hospitals (loke Sloan-Kettering) know all about it.

We are firm of chartered accountants .one of our partner died can we recieve charity for cancer research?

and can we recieve charity money from clients and other people in our normal business account. wat about gift aid scheme in this matter and tax and other law implication. i need law refrence to explain it

We are firm of chartered accountants .one of our partner died can we recieve charity for cancer research?
This is not a recommendation for Chartered Accountants!

If you were on TaxWeb, you'd have entered your name, thereby warning people to stay well away.
Reply:You should receive charity money for instruction on how to use the spell checker.
Reply:being chatered accountants you should know the answer to this i do!

I pity your clients

How many people are employed in the cancer industry?

I wonder, what is the sum total of people employed in cancer research, treatment, and related not for profits (Gilda's Club, etc.) that deal with cancer patients.

How many people are employed in the cancer industry?
Thousands if not millions. If your lookin for a job related thing,i'm sure jobs are in demand.

How can we make curing cancer a global priority?

Cancer kills 7 million people worldwide each year. Yet it is a treatable disease that—in time—is beatable. However, in today’s troubled global environment, valuable resources that would otherwise go to cancer research are frequently re-directed by the crisis du jour.

What can we, as individuals and as a global community, do to focus %26amp; mobilize our governments to find the cures that will make cancer a fear of the past?

How can we make curing cancer a global priority?
I think that we need to look at our priorities. Yes, cancer kills many millions of people a year, but more people are killed in much more easily preventable ways. For example, in some countries children die all the time from diarrhea, which is easily preventable and easily treatable with the right medical help. Tuberculosis is still a big killer in poor countries, even though it can be treated as well. In some countries women die in childbirth 10% of the time. In some countries 30% or more of the population has HIV or AIDS. This is just unacceptable. Cancer is awful, but unfortunately it is just not the biggest problem in the world and it shouldn't be our biggest priority.
Reply:now today they are finding out that the products we puchase like toothpaste, soaps, beauty products, and deordant all have certain chemicals in it that cause cause cancer. people need to start buying all natural products and that is a start.
Reply:Unfortunately, I don't think governments are interested in the cure because there is no money in it---money comes from the sick people who need to purchase the TREATMENTS. It's sick and very sad indeed! I am tired of losing people to this monster!
Reply:The human population is exploding as it is. Until humans become responsible enough to limit and reverse their population growth, do we really need more cures?

The Yanks' very prestigious American Institute for Cancer Research Supports Flexitarian Vegetarians.?

"According to the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR), vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and beans should make up two-thirds or more of the meal -- like they have in rural China for centuries. Animal foods should make up no more than one-third"

http://www.webmd.com/content/pages/10/16...

Do you find as a flexitarian vegan or vegetarian that you meat consumption is "no more than one-third" of your diet?

The Yanks' very prestigious American Institute for Cancer Research Supports Flexitarian Vegetarians.?
My meat consumption is less than that by far. The flexetarian diet eventually will be the proven diet of choice, against the better wishes of the V%26amp;V fanatics.
Reply:I'm not sure what this question has to do with being a vegetarian, when I understand vegetarians do not eat flesh.

However, as an omnivore, my meat consumption is far less than a third of my diet.
Reply:Well, as a yank, I think this is good news. Folks are really interested in ways to prevent cancer, so the fact the American Institute for Cancer Research suggests diet has something to do with preventing cancer will get a lot of American's thinking about what they eat.

My animal food consumption is less than one-third.

"Mrs. Badcrumb"---Do you know how to read? We really don't give a crap about YOUR idea of what is or isn't vegetarian. You don't count. Answer the question.
Reply:I like that word flexitarian.

I have read several times in health magazines that folks should go meatless at least 4 times a week. Meaning, get your protein from other sources than animals. We are trying to do so and I have found many recipes that appeal to me.

Sometimes, I guess I go on a turkey ham binge. I think I am probably missing something vital from my diet. But, I am think for the most part I am doing pretty good.

peace,

Pam
Reply:Surely if meat makes up ANY of your diet you cannot call yourself either vegetarian or vegan.

It's quite simple really, putting a pointless adjective in front of the word does not make you any kind of vegetarian if you eat meat.
Reply:Ironically; life's too short!
Reply:I think flexitarians are omnivores, and so are the trolls of V%26amp;V.
Reply:There is nothing in that article that I disagree with.

But the word "flexitarian" wasn't used in the article; not that I could find.

I don't care if people eat meat, I'm not going to try to prove you can't eat meat and be healthy.

But "flexitarian vegetarian" or "flexitarian vegan" makes as much sense as "kosher pork", "celibate prostitute" or "freedom is slavery."
Reply:Blocking someone is very cowardly and childish. Why you are blocking "me" I have no idea.

I can promise that the effort will be futile though. I will view and answer every question you post. Feel free to answer my questions. I'm not a coward.

Frosty "me".
Reply:Yes. My meat consumption is about 1/3 of my diet or less. I am definitely an omnivore as there is no such thing as a flexitarian vegan nor vegetarian, and the link refers to nobody by those designations.

Also, the article only compares meat diet versus meat diet saying one meat diet is better than the other. Most people already know that.
Reply:Thatt's terrable. Those flexatarianss shoulldd get jobs n knot except munny from those peeple.

N those peeple shud quit yanking two.
Reply:I'm a vegetarian so I can only give my opinion as I see it. I think that this is trying to get people to consider an easy way to judge moderation.
Reply:Actually lower than that. "Meateaters" doesn't mean all meat diet anyway. Meat is just a part of the diet.

PS rural Chinese also have higher infant mortality rates and lower life expectancy. But that is another issue altogether.
Reply:There's no such thing as a flexitarian, you're just an omnivore then, first of all. Second of all, why are you posting repeatedly with research that favors your point of view? Anyone with any knowledge of Google and a motive can find about 30 or more articles and solid research supporting a vegan diet, or a vegetarian diet, as well. I am almost positive I can find research favoring an all-meat diet as well (okay, I looked and I did, http://www.biblelife.org/stefansson2.htm *laughs* ) Now let's see if I can find research supporting eating one's own feces... no, just kidding...

If there is one thing I have learned about research, in particular when I was a Health Care Specialist in the Army, there is never a unanimous agreement about anything. Even main-stream concepts like "A glass of wine a day is good for you" are refuted every other day by this or that university, and then on days in between some other research fund demonstrates quite the opposite.

You should also look at who is supporting the research. I know for a fact that the AICR (Americans Institute for Cancer Research) gets funding form companies like Monsanto, which is a drug company that makes pesticides and hormones that are administered to dairy cows. Monsanto has been repeatedly linked to cancer, both directly and indirectly. Monsanto in turn funds various cancer-research foundations to shift focus onto other things, and to encourage further consumption of their tainted dairy. You need to take a big dose of political awareness:

http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0ge...

For more information about the big names behind most of our research, as well as the companies that pay politicians and the USDA/FDA in order to make sure that meat and dairy remain a staple in the USA diet, read "Food Politics" by Marion Nestle, and "Live Longer Now" by a man by the last name of Hitchcox (neither of these authors are vegan, so you cannot tell me its vegan propaganda).

Most vegans and vegetarians have ethical reasons for their diet as well. I'm sure you're very well aware of the poor conditions of animals in American factory farms.

I come from a family of dairy farmers and regular podunk country farmers (that raise their own pigs, chickens and cows). I know the difference between ethical and unethical treatment of animals. I have seen animals slaughtered on a my family's down-home farm and I have personally gone and seen a "factory farm" (to be precise, a gigantic 'ranch' that McDonald sources for beef). I have personal opinions about each of them which I won't detail here, I don't think you'd care enough to read minutae details.

Just accept that some people, like myself, choose to be vegan. I'm fine with whatever you yourself choose to eat, even if it's an all-meat diet.
Reply:I agree. The fear of cancer will "scare" them into eating properly.

WOW . . .nice job on the crazy. That put him in his place, Skully.

Is there a point giving money to cancer research when...?

they only make us pay for using it with unpayable price so most people like me could not buy it if they find a cure even though we funded them and even though we pay in to the NHS(UK).

so is there a point paying in it even though we will never be able to use it if we need it

and would you give money to cancer research

and does it make you angry like me that you would never get to use it.

and is there a point giving money to them really

thanks

Is there a point giving money to cancer research when...?
How do you know you'd never be able to use it? What if the research discovers an affordable cure? Are you psychic?
Reply:Yes, and tens of thousands of cancer sufferers get treated the NHS every year. The treatment my father got was amazing. He had a rare form of cancer. His specialist heard about a new drug for it that wasn't yet approved in the UK. However, he got some from America and gave it to my father. All free on the NHS.

And many advances have occured due to charitable donations made to cancer research charities.

Hope that helps with your problem whatever it is.
Reply:I give regularly to Cancer Research and am also taking part in a long term survey for breast cancer research. Any research done is for the benefit of all and if a cure is found anyone will be able to get the treatment. Your question is a bit confusing but I know many people who have had cancer and they have all been treated by the NHS at no extra cost to themselves or others.
Reply:You live in the UK, so your question makes absolutely no sense, you already pay National Insurance, so that covers your medical expenses under the National Health system.

If you do not want to give money for cancer research, then don't; but to be intellectually honest, if you develop any form of cancer (and you have a 1 in 3 chance in your lifetime), then you should decline any treatment and just die of it!
Reply:Commonsensemom, all medical treatment is free on the NHS in Britain. I think, but I'm not sure, that Billy is talking about the situation that sometimes arises where a treatment exists but has not yet been approved for use on the NHS - sometimes because of the cost. Herceptin for breast cancer is one example - this was not approved for a while because of cost, but is now automatically offered on the NHS where appropriate.

I have had breast cancer, and had surgery, chemo, radiotherapy and hormone treatment free on the NHS. You could not buy better nursing than I had. We don't have to pay to see our family doctors either, and when I have had concerns about recurrence or secondaries tests have been free on the NHS.

I have not chosen to have breast reconstruction, but if I change my mind that too will be free of charge.

The NHS is not perfect, far from it; cuts and creeping privatisation (eg in cleaning and catering) are a huge concern. But I'd say it knocks any other system in the world into a ****** hat.

Believe me, when you have a serious illness like cancer you get out so much more than you have ever put in - and I have been paying NI contributions for going on 40 years.

Billy, I think the government should pay for cancer research rather than relying on charities; but there is dedicated hard work going on into treatments and cures. If you get cancer, you will benefit.
Reply:yeah, we have to!~
Reply:Oh Billy, if only you knew....

I work with people that are researching the cancer genome. It ain't cheap, believe me....

What you pay with your NI contributions only keeps layabouts on the dole.

Cancer research costs mega bucks! CONTRIBUTE NOW!
Reply:How do you think they have come up with the treatments, and cures for various kinds of cancers so far? Through Research. Without research there wouldn't be any treatments available for cancer at all. So yes, we do need to continue to give money to cancer research.

As far as the National Health System in the UK not paying for treatment, that is ridiculous, and sad. We here in the US, are trying to come up with a way to deal with the cost of health care for those who do not have Insurance, and it has been a controvery for years. They keep touting the UK's system as good, but now, I'm beginning to wonder. So they don't pay for cancer treatment at all??? They don't have a fallback system, for those who can not afford it???. That is tragic, and scary. Does your money that you donate for cancer research go directly to the NHS? Or is it done by private charities? If it is done through the NHS, I can see how you would be angy, and upset, but if it is done through private charities, then there is no connection to the NHS, so I would say, it is still good to donate for research. If it's the NHS, I would look for some private charities that may be able to help you with payment. There has to be some available if the NHS isn't paying for it.

Otherwise, I don't know what to tell you, except that research is the only way they will ever come up with a cure for cancer. So it is totally up to you what you decide to do.

God Bless, and I hope if you do have cancer, that you will find some help with the payment.
Reply:If the idea of giving to charity is just to benefit yourself then don't give....its a bit like planting a tree, you may not see the benefit yourself, but in the future others will.....yes some treatments are expensive, but the vast majority of treatments over the last 20 to 30 years are free, and many Cancers, whilst not cureable, are at least manageable and are not the death sentence they used to be....so there is a point in giving...and I will continue to do so....
Reply:I think I agree in some ways. You see it on the media about they have found a new drug, then they won't let people who are willing to take the risk to try it out, even though it hasn't been passed. I feel those poor people who will die should have that chance.

I do think though that a lot of the money goes on research and they have made massive break-through on the treatment of a lot diseases as well as cancer.
Reply:i hope so but they are all bent its the goverment they really don't understand nothing we have a prime minister but he is really a joye for everyone he knows nothing its all bullshit i know from first hand

Why is the federal government (US) spending 7x more on breast cancer research than prostate cancer, despite...

...the fact that about 9 percent more men in the US develop prostate cancer than women develop breast cancer.

$550 million v. $80 million

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/articl...

Likewise, in Australia, breast cancer on average kills 2600 women each year

However,

http://www.prostate.org.au/pcfa-reso...n...

Prostate cancer kills 2,700 Australian men every year.

2600 women v. 2700 men. Yet the Australian Government, in 2004, through the National Health and Medical Research Council, provided $6.9 million in funding for research into breast Cancer. While the Australian Government, through the National Health and Medical Research Council, provided $2.5 million in funding for research into prostate cancer.

$6.9 m for women; $2.5 m for men.

Women receiving 3x more funding than men.

My question is WHY

Are men just not worth as much as women?

Why is the federal government (US) spending 7x more on breast cancer research than prostate cancer, despite...
Very good question! We should ask our congressmen, senators if anyone know these statistics. Why men are invisible? Write to your congressmen, senators and tell them

they should do something about it.
Reply:Let me give a different colour to your opinion.

Breast cancer is most common among white women

Prostrate cancer is most common among Afro American men.

What says bro!!!
Reply:he might be doing it because breast cancer can kill a woman faster then prostate can kill a man but it is very wrong for him to be doing that for women and not men but maybe hes trying to find something for prostate cancer that he can spend just as much money on well maybe not but i dont know
Reply:If your statistics are correct, I suspect it's because prostate cancer has really just begun to be discussed openly in the mainstream.

We should be spending more money on health and education and welfare (housing, etc - general welfare of our people, not WELFARE handout is my point!) and less on flexing muscles.

Just my point of view.
Reply:Okay first of all, men have a test it's called the PSA it cost a fortune to come up with this little test to detect prostate cancer. Millions and millions were spent in research way before they even thought about breast cancer. It's only been in the last several years that we women have been demanding more research to come up with a blood test or something of that sort to detect breast cancer early on. Susan G. Koman's sister got it all kicked off when she made a promise to her sister that she would do what ever it took to find a cure for breast cancer. Plus prostate cancers is a very slow growing cancer and most men don't die of it. I'm not sure your stats are right, at least not here in the US. I for one can tell you I sure wish it was as easy as taking a blood test and if that came out high you would know. It's still very hard to detect breast cancer.
Reply:Umm..... probably because it's "lady's first"
Reply:Why are you saying that the US government is spending 7x more on breast cancer research than on prostate research and then you give examples of deaths in Australia? What is the purpose of this? The number of breast cancer deaths is Australia doesn't even come close to the number of deaths in the US.

Why do you think so much more attention is paid to breast cancer over Prostate Cancer?

The US Government spends double on breast cancer research over prostate and the corporate disparity is much greater. Campbells soup doesn't have Prostate awareness soup cans! Although deaths from breat cancer are 1/3 higher there are far more cases of prostate cancer, over 240,000 per year. The funding and awarness differential is 300 or 400%. So is it a gender issue, an age issue (tends to be later onset) or What?

Why do you think so much more attention is paid to breast cancer over Prostate Cancer?
Truthfully, I think it comes down to this: "the squeaky wheel gets the grease." Women have aligned themselves behind this cause and worked together- socially, politically- to bring attention to and fight for the research money. They have banded together to raise money and awareness. They've gone through the necessary steps to make sure that this problem is not ignored.

Men should do the same for prostate cancer.

This is one area that men could learn something from the example of women. I'm not saying this to be sexist. I'm saying it because it's the truth. Men need to band together and fight for what they want. Things aren't just handed to any of us on a "silver platter." We had to struggle for what we wanted to achieve.

Prostate cancer indeed does deserve more attention. Men have the power (same as women) to bring this issue to a level of heightened awareness. But I wouldn't stop there. Awareness is a great first step- a necessary one, but take it further: join in force and be political advocates. Don't stop until you reach your goals! You'll find out, along the way, that as others gain awareness, more people will join in the fight for your cause...not just men, but women, too.
Reply:that's a really good question. maybe because stronger women are more interesting then stronger men?

it's not a good answer, but it's all i can think of =/
Reply:Your statistics are inaccurate. Only in a few developed nations does prostate cancer come close to killing as many men as does breast cancer kills women worldwide. There has been very little money ever spent on medical research related to women's health. Women were not typically even included as research subjects. Medical science is playing desperate catch-up right now, especially related to enormous, until only recently acknowledged, physiological differences between females and males in regards to chemistry, pharmacology and nutrition and so on.

Breast cancer typically kills a larger percentage of women worldwide than prostatic cancer kills men, except in highly developed nations such as the U.S. where diet largely is to blame and where the percentages are about the same. The etiology or causes of prostatic cancer are much better understood than are the causes of breast cancer. We do not know what causes breast cancer in 95% of the cases. That greater mystery requires greater funding and research focus than does a better understood disease.

Also, because prostate cancer does not usually occur until later in men's lives and because it affects African-Americans more than others has led in the past to some disregard for prioritorization based on ageism and racism, certainly not sexism. But, the total disregard for women's health research has been largely based on sexism.

As mentioned above, a greater awareness is generating related to enormous differences between males and females in such areas as nutritional requirements and health consequences. In order to begin to more accurately comprehend ANY cancer, gender-based research is imperitive. For example, women who consume soy products prior to adolescence have significantly reduced risk of breast cancer throughout their lives. But, soy product consumption for boys prior to adolescence does not reduce their risk for prostate cancer. But, as you know, reducing red meat consumption does reduce the risk of prostate cancer.
Reply:That is a real double standard because prostate cancer is just as brutal as breast cancer.

Children`s medical conditions are much more important than adult's medical conditions.
Reply:Women are more apt to openly discuss issues regarding our organs. We're more huggy, lovey, support kind of beings. Men tend to be more embarrassed about their prostates, testes, etc. I think that's at the root of this whole thing.Whereas women would rally together to get breast cancer noticed in society, men would rather not talk about their prostates.
Reply:Breast cancer is not JUST a woman's issue, whereas prostate cancer is. About 1,700 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and 450 will die each year. Not a huge number in comparison with women, I agree, but still something for you guys to think about.
Reply:First of all, the men who are directly affected by this have only recently been men from the "Boomer" generation and later. Men of previous generations tended to "suffer in silence" and be neither politically active about such things nor comfortable even discussing them.

Second, following that last point, the whole issue of even the examinations involved in identifying prostate problems make it a subject about which many men are squeamish. Most men definitely are not going to be comfortable even thinking about the issue.
Reply:I do not believe your stats are right that there are more prostate cancer cases. One in seven women will contract breast cancer in her lifetime.

And if we aggregate the amount of money spent over the years on studies exclusively devoted to men, what is spent on breast cancer research (i.e. women's health) is still a drop in the bucket. It wasn't until recently that researchers even began including women in their trials.
Reply:Because

1. Researchers used to ignore breast cancer because it has to do with... breasts. And breasts are 'dirty', and only for sex. You didn't used to be able to read about breasts, nevermind breast cancer. Breasts are naughty, dirty, and shouldn't be discussed in polite company (or in public). It used to be unacceptable to use the word 'pregnant' in the mass media - it was strictly censored and replaced by the more 'socially acceptable' word 'expecting'. Also, you didn't used to be able to show a pregnant woman on television. Check out "I Love Lucy" footage when Lucille Ball was pregnant with "Little Ricky" - you will see the pregnant Lucille Ball was exclusively photographed from the WAIST UP. You never see her pregnant belly - EVER; such dirty images would never have made it past the censors.

Pregnancy = dirty

Anything to do with breasts = dirty

2. Breast cancer is the #1 killer of women in America

Researchers are trying to MAKE UP FOR LOST TIME from when the only illnesses worth studying were those males suffered from - and then the information extrapolated onto female populations.

HUGE PROBLEM: the findings from work done on male populations often didn't - and doesn't - apply to females.

Back to the drawing board.

edit:

Maybe some of you will remember an episode of "All In The Family" where Gloria, pregnant and as big as a house, is barking right in Archie's face "pregnantpregnantpregnantpregnant..." and Archie is so offended by the word he is seen wildly flailing his arms in the air, trying desperately to get away from Gloria and the offensive word! I don't think that even "All In the Family" would have gotten past the censors with the word "breast" - and boy, did they ever push the envelope!
Reply:Is is "visibility"? Breasts are visible, functional, and have a more widespread interest in them while the prostate is hidden away. There are no testicular cancer, pancreatic cancer or liver cancer soup cans, either.

I do not mean to give a frivolous answer, I feel that all cancers are equally important and more should be done to create awareness and education as to cause and cure.
Reply:men get prostate cancer in their 70s (age does affect spending), they tend to die WITH it - not OF it, it tends to be easily treatable (hormone therapy).

women tend to get breast cancer in their 60s, it is not easily treatable unless found very early, chemo is often used. it has also killed women in their 30s and 40s.

you cannot simply handpick 2 cancers and say why is funding for a woman's cancer (men get breast cancer too - but in small rates) than the man's cancer. this is just ridiculous.

women were just used as reseach subjects in the 60s. this did a huge disservice to us. women and men may experience diseases differently (heart disease is a good example). we still lag behind. so do minorities.

you want to talk about health disparities? talk about how poor people or minorities often are diagnosed with cancer at later stages and have higher death rates.
Reply:It's a fault in a fashion. Cancer is a serious stuff, and every form of cancer deserved to have funds, and education about prevention. But maybe prostate cancer is still something who requires regular checkups. Usually, when you find there's something really wrong with your prostate and your testes, is too late. The only prevention avaiable is a regular check-up in adult age.

Breast cancer has the "advantage" of leaving marks than a trained woman can feel on herself just showering and touching her breast searching for lumps and stuff. If she's told how and when.
Reply:It doesn't matter what kind of caner.Cancer is a killer. All types!!!

More studies should be done on Melanoma cancer. There is no cure.Being told one has melanoma is the same as being given a death sentence.
Reply:Perhaps because women are viewed as the "weaker sex" who apparently require more attention than men do, rather than equals whose issues both deserve equal effort towards awareness... or maybe our society has progressively been "feminising" (you know that I dislike using that word), as has some aspects of our court system, where the woman is typically favoured in cases of divorce and child custody... or there's a conspiracy for world domination on behalf of women...

hehe, I keed.

Whatever it may be, it isn't right that women would be the primary focus of any form of awareness, and in health particularly, men tend to suffer more health problems than women do (and die younger).

I think that we should be treated equally. This is my opinion.

Edit: Excellent point Glo. It didn't occur to me, the convenient politics within social awareness.
Reply:I believe that it is because women are more likely to talk openly about something private that affects them. Men with cancer or any other problem are not likely to talk about it publicly. Men want to keep it to themselves.
Reply:people like boobs more than butt holes
Reply:For the same reason that women's heart disease is just now coming to the forefront... For the same reason there is very little talk about testicular cancer, which onset is between 13-25 .... Money! Public awareness is whatever is clever at the moment... God bless****
Reply:What about heart disease? It kills more women than breast cancer, and is a silent killer.
Reply:It's "sexy", for one thing. I know that sounds horrible, but anytime the word breast is involved, a cause gets more attention.

Another reason is for the lobbying and activism of many, many people. Both types of cancer can generally be dealt with quite well by early screening, however, even that is not failsafe.

Personally, I think we should move on to other causes. "Awareness" in particular is such a waste of funds! We're aware already - now let's use money to reasearch diseases that have no known treatment. Autism, for example, is sorely lacking in research funding compared to AIDS, but we all know how to avoid AIDS - not so for autism.

Cheerleading/Dance competition to benefit cancer research? How do I organize one?

Hello, I haven't really been able to find much about doing this anywhere online. I am a cheerleading and dance coach and I would like to have a competition to raise money for cancer research. I have heard of a few squads doing this, but I haven't heard of anyone around my state doing this. I was just wondering if anyone out there has organized a benefit before and how they went about doing so. Thanks everyone!

Cheerleading/Dance competition to benefit cancer research? How do I organize one?
I was a cheerleader and we held a competition for are senior project. But we had to talk to our school to hold it there and we had to put it on the competition shudlue. If I where I would concnt the organztion that you want to benfit and let them know and get people from there to help you. I hope this helps alittle. Good luck! I thank you for doing this. I well help you anyway I can, just ask. I planned mine. Good luck again.

Why does cancer research cost so much money when it a global problem with so much reward?

Its sad to say but its a business like anything else. I makes you wonder if they ever do( or have) find (or found) a cure would they really make it public. The way the world is today I'm afraid it would be more of a concern all the jobs that would be lost, instead of all the lives that could be saved.

Why does cancer research cost so much money when it a global problem with so much reward?
pardon me if i sound jaded. my brother recently died from leukemia.

the cures are known and they are simple and they are inexpensive. those that make the big bucks, the medical professions, the pharmaceutical companies, the insurance companies etc, keep the information from being utilized. sad but true.
Reply:There is no money in the cure.
Reply:I don't understand how the size of the problem should affect the cost of the research.

Please add more to your question if you want an answer.

Would it be better to prevent cancer than wasting money in a research laboritory poisoning animals?

I am glad smoking is banned from most places, but what can be done next?

Would it be better to prevent cancer than wasting money in a research laboritory poisoning animals?
the use of high dosage of preservatives in foods or processed foods should be prohibited!
Reply:I am sure whilst poisoning the "poor" animals the scientist are actually looking for a prevention or cure to cancer, or in someway trying to make out lives better or the future better for our children and their children.

and as for what can be done next - How about banning people from being exposed to sun, to avoid skin cancer. A ban from being in public places between sun rise and sun set. Just to cover the council's back incase someone sues them for getting skin cancer whilst on council property!!!
Reply:Cancer prevention.

Now there is a can of worms.

If you eat this, smoke that , or do something else or don't do something you will ..............................( fill the gap yourself)

Through no fault of my own, or anyone elses, I have an autoimmune liver disease that is incurable. ( in other words terminal)

HOWEVER ..... this is the important bit ...... The research into the drugs that keep me alive and my liver function as normal as it can be was done on animals.

I am not certain there would be any diabetics living as they do now without animal testing. ( insulin development has come a long way)

Whilst I understand the logic and sentimentality behind your question, I also am realistic enough to now that life is not perfect or ideal.

As a cancer survivor I have a lot to be thankful for. Especially to the pioneers that had the spherical objects to perform experiments.

As for poisoning animals - - that is what we do everyday outside a lab just to produce leaner meat, transport it around etc etc etc
Reply:No there should be a lot more testing on live animals; Animals have to important functions in today's society; to fit well and be delicious
Reply:remove toxic chemicals from food, drugs, and daily life,

prevention is better than cure-and no barbaric experiments-

which are an absolute waste of time-

educate people to eat healthily, drink less alcohol, give up smoking-education must start at home, but schools must start having health education lessons
Reply:I will say what i said to someone else. Animals are not the answer and here is a simple rule, what cna beocme active in the body which creates it, can become dormant once more, they is no cure to what was never there.
Reply:you want to volunteer to be the next animal for testing? yo numb nuts how do you think they prevent cancer? TESTING,genius.
Reply:There is no known way to prevent cancer. It is not known what causes the majority of the 200 diseases and its subtypes. The exposure to carcingens in the environment does not always lead to cancer. No one knows why one person gets cancer but another one does not. No one knows why a non-smoker will suddenly get lung cancer, nor why a smoker does not always get cancer. It isn't that clear cut.

So, you cannot prevent cancer from happening to people. You may however be able to reduce the risk by not smoking, not drinking, exercise, and a balanced diet. But there is no guarantee.

Cancer is an ancient disease and was here long before the Industrial revolution or processed foods.

The history of cancer

http://www.cancer.org/docroot/CRI/conten...

Cancer is a horrible disease and the use of lab mice is a way to find treatment that may or may not be effective before giving them to humans. But, here is something that you do not know. Every single drug we have for cancer treatment had to be tested on human beings with cancer before they could be approved as a treatment. Which means that it is not just animals that have been experimented on. There are called Clinical Trials. Clinical Trials ask cancer patients who generally have run out of treatment options to volunteer to test drugs. No one knows if the drugs will work. No one knows if the drug will make the person sicker or produce a remission. It is not animals that are being experimented on . . it is people with cancer. The majority who go through Clinical Trials are extremely ill and this is their last hope.

Ethics of Clinical Trials

http://www.pbs.org/wnet/religionandethic...

So do not worry about the animals, as they are not a good substitute for a human being who has cancer. Cancer tumors and response to treatment manifest differently in human than in animals and so humans are used.

Entering a Clinical Trial. Is it right for you?

http://www.dana-farber.org/res/clinical/...

Because my son has a rare cancer with very few treatment options he will undergo a Clinical Trial in a few weeks. Don't worry, no animals will be injured during his trial.
Reply:Perhaps the regulations governing experiments on live animals can be modernised so that it becomes easier to get permission to do experiments which might help treat or cure disease, while cutting back on the endless testing of identical cosmetics.
Reply:Chrissy

I am sure that I am not alone in being both an animal lover and a realist on this subject.

There is an ethical issue, in an ideal world we would not need to test anything on animals especially unnecessary products such as cosmetics (whats in your bathroom cabinet or on your dressing table ?).

Clearly however we do not live in an ideal world and to kid ourselves that the answer to your question about prevention of unpleasant killer diseases such as cancer (lets add a few more say Motor Neurone Disease, Multiple Scerosis, Parkinsons) can readily be achieved without extensive research is not reaslistic. We can only help to pprevent or develop treatments for these diseases if we know what causes them and we only learn that by research (some unfortunately involving animals).

Clearly public health legislation such as smoking bans in public spaces is a great (and long over due) step forward I am sure that this will help.

I would conclude by saying that where we can prevent unneccessary animal testing and develop safe and reliable techniques for testing and research not involving animals then we should do so as a matter of priority.
Reply:yes, and well said!!!!
Reply:how can we prevent Cancer without understanding it and testing drugs before we can use them, if you have an answer to that it would be great
Reply:Diagnosing cancer much earlier would save many lives. Why doesn't the NHS offer full body scans to those over a certain age say every five years. That way, any signs of cancer would be picked up much earlier where suvival rates are much better.

Race for Life 2008- Cancer Research UK?

I am running in this race for life event at silverstone, northamptonshire (UK) on Wednesday 11th June 2008. (my second race for life event)

This is a cause very important to me as my younger brother (aged 13 when he first got it ) has recovered from secondary cancer after approx 4 years.

I therefore want to do something to be able to say thankyou to the people and science that made it possible for my brother to survive.

I therefore wondered whether anyone would help me in raising money. I have set up an online fundraising page together with the race for life people that provides a secure way for money to be donated online and sent directly to cancer research UK.

Even £1 would make such a difference.

I would love it if you would take a look and let other people know who might want to sponser me. Thank you.

Do you care about your sons and dads as much as you care about your daughters and moms? Do you show it in your donations to cancer research?

What would Pelosi do?

Moms, Do You Contribute Only to Breast Cancer Research? What About Your Sons, Dads, and Husbands?
Sons and Dads have breast Cancer too! Check it out.
Reply:My husband and I contribute to several different cancer charities ... we also 'speak out' about cancer ... but because I was given a 'terminal ... less than three months to live' diagnosis when I was 21, and I have the WORST form of genetic disposition to that cancer, we both care most about skin cancer, especially malignant melanoma ... but we do donate to both breast cancer and prostate cancer research, among many other 'charities' ... including the research to find a 'cure' for Parkinson's Disease, for Muscular Sclerosis, and for Heart research for both men and women.

What Nancy Pelosi does is personal ... and whether she cotributes to different charities or no charities at all makes little difference to me ... at least as long as she is in the 'position' she holds in Congress ... her's is a POLITICAL position, and I feel that it is WRONG to 'speak out' for a certain type of health research over another ...

Do coke beverage can make a person got cancer ? any research on this / any victim already ?

im asking because im concern about my health and others at the future if just say i /we keep on drinking it

Do coke beverage can make a person got cancer ? any research on this / any victim already ?
Yes, sodium benzoate or potassium benzoate when combined with ascorbic acid produces benzene, a cancer causing agent.
Reply:I don't think Coke Classic can hurt you, other than rot your teeth and make you obese if you have too much. Diet Coke, on the other hand, is poison, in my opinion. Artificial sweeteners are very dangerous, and should be avoided in every form, they break down in the body and can cause brain tumors and all sorts of other bad, bad things. After a lifetime of consuming Diet Coke, I had a brain tumor last year that was completely random--I was in otherwise perfect health, didn't live under power lines...inexplicable. Look up "Diet Coke" and "Brain tumor" together and see what you find.
Reply::
Reply:Last I checked... Coke products don't have Sodium Benzoate or Potassium Benzoate combined with Ascorbic Acid, so I don't know what that has to do with this. Anyway, I think just about everything that isn't totally natural in our food has some sort of chance to give us cancer. Just my opinion. But I have never heard anything about Coke products being the cause of any of it. I agree with the sugar substitute comment though, I never could trust those things.

Are men just not worth as much as women in our society?

Why is the federal government (US) spending 7x more on breast cancer research than prostate cancer, despite...
There is no reason nor excuse to have seven times more government spending on breast cancer than prostrate cancer. I know that the breast cancer charities have done an excellent job creating awareness and gathering funds. I applaud the work they have done.

I have yet seen a valid reason to support the biased spending.
Reply:Stockman hit the nail on the head. Breast cancer funding through the private sector, i.e., Race For The Cure, has helped push the funding for breast cancer reearch ahead of prostate cancer research.

I wish there was a race or something for prostate cancer.
Reply:Breast cancer is a lot deadlier than prostate cancer, which is highly curable/treatable if caught early. You're only using statistics of deaths...not the number of women who contract the disease, which is becoming epidemic in the western world. One in seven women will contract breast cancer during her life.

And your question, "Are men just not worth as much as women in our society?" is a little ironic.

10,000 years of paternalism and male domination, and they think in 30 years of almost-equality, they're "owed" something again. Unbelievable.
Reply:Your reasoning is flawed. There are more women in the US than men so of course they are going to get more funding. And besides, women and minorities have long been subjected to lesser medical treatment so it is about time that the tables are turned.

Maybe women's health care gets more funding because women earn less than men. The government figures that the men can afford their expensive medical treatment because they make more money in the workplace.
Reply:as far as the percentages, those are flawed. if there were an equal number of men and womne, then you would have a point there, but since there are more women than men in the us, the percentages are not accurate reflections of each other.

as far as the rest of your question, I dont have a ready answer for you except that I have had 7 women in my life since I was 18 die of breast cancer, and no men getting prostate cancer.
Reply:Women make me wish I HAD cancer.
Reply:Well Dave first of all you and your homies should be getting together and making the public more aware instead of spending it in front of the keyboard.

Second point is that breast cancer is not limited to women and men can get it as well.

http://www.cancerhelp.org.uk/help/defaul...
Reply:I believe it has more to do with 'catching up.' Women's health issues took a back seat for many decades - even drug studies didn't differentiate in their research. How come you didn't protest that?

EDIT: Only for the one who sent the hateful email - I'm not blonde, my avatar is - bright eyes.
Reply:The lobbyists for the different women's groups are very strong.
Reply:Read Tracey's answer thrice more times, and think about it hard.
Reply:You aren't married, are you? If you lived with a woman you would know the answer. They never stop until they get their way while men keep their problems to themselves.
Reply:I think you are onto something diogenese_97's.

Cancer research supporting puppy mills?

As some of you know, there is a pet store by my house that sells puppies. My mom loves to go in there and play with the puppies, even though she knows they're from puppy mills. (I've told her that several times.)

Anyway, we were in there today because my mom wanted to show me these cute 'Shih-Poos' there. (Which I then had to explain to her about puppy mills. AGAIN.)

There was a Cavalier there, a little boy. He'd been sold. My mom asked who had bought him, and the salesman told her the Wellness Foundation.

As it turns out, once a year, the Wellness Foundation purchases a puppy from this pet store, then auctions him/her off and donates the money to cancer research.

My mom just went on about how great this store is. (Which I then corrected her, going on about puppy mills again.)

So, in my mind, The Wellness Foundation is actually SUPPORTING puppy mills by buying puppies.

Hmmmm...

Thoughts?

Cancer research supporting puppy mills?
Auctioning a dog is one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen any organization do. Forget where they get the animal - that's the least of the problems.

A dog should not be prize. It should be a well thought out, lifetime commitment made after doing research.

When are we going to start auctioning children? Maybe I'll have a baby and we can auction it off to help raise money for my favorite rescue? I mean, what's the difference?

Someone will be happy to win a brand spanking new baby for $10.00 right?
Reply:Or maybe the cancer research is using the puppy for cancer research, the auction is just a ploy to see which research center gets the puppy.
Reply:Maybe the cancer reasearch place is too lazy to find a breeder
Reply:That's disgusting! A dog shouldn't be auctioned off! I bet you anything that that dog is going to end up in the shelter! I've got 10 bucks right here!

Disgusting!
Reply:As much as I hate the thought of using a live animal as a fundraising commodity, I doubt that the Wellness Foundation's purchase has much influence in the puppy mill industry.

When I was a kid, the 'Name the Pony" contests were running rampant. Every car dealer had the sign up..'Name the Pony" and take him home.

Well, years later, I saw some of the victims of that deplorable advertising campaign. They were sorely neglected ponies, who had seldom left the confines of a back yard, nor had any veterinary care, or even the basics of decent care.

The families all had a kid that wanted a pet pony..and thought of a good name ..and won! Without regard to the needs of a pony.

I agree, Shannon. It is an awful thing to do, but isn't done out of malice, just plain ignorance.
Reply:Yes, you are correct. They are supporting puppy mills.

Also talk to your mother about the puppy itself. It's going to the highest bidder, NOT to the best home. What if some clueless person just impulse-buys him? A good dog owner doesn't just bid on a dog because he's in a charity auction.

The Wellness Foundation may be doing good things for their cause, but they're hurting the situation for dogs. :-( Why not contact this organization and share your concerns? Maybe suggest something better they should be auctioning off (that isn't alive)?

I hate puppymills. Why not print ouit some of the pages from the internet about puppy mills %26amp; share them with your mother? Or bring her to a rescue organziation that can show her what a real puppy mill dog looks like?
Reply:Have your mom look at this website

http://stoppuppymills.org

If she wants to play with animals, tell her to volunteer at the shelters where 90% of these puppies ultimately wind up.

Edit:"As it turns out, once a year, the Wellness Foundation purchases a puppy from this pet store, then auctions him/her off and donates the money to cancer research."

Why didn't they just use the money they spent on that puppy and put it to cancer research, instead of buying the puppy, auctioning it off for less than what they paid for it?

Edit again: Ok, maybe she would like to get all her info about puppy mills and start passing them out near the store. Going in and playing with them shows people that you support them.

What is the best university to go to if you want to be in cancer research??

I'm not sure if you're talking about undergraduate school or for medical school. If you are talking about college, then go to whatever college you like, preferably one that has a good pre-med program such as Georgetown, Brown, Vanderbilt, Emory, Stamford, UPenn, Duke, or many state schools such as UVA, UC Berkley, SUNY Stonybrook, etc.

You can also do whatever school you like and then go to a top-notch post-bac program to take all of your pre-med courses. If you do that, Columbia has a program, and from there you can apply to Weill College of Medicine at Cornell which is associated with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and NY Presbyterian, where you'd try to do your residency. The Mayo clinic would also be a place where you'd want to do your residency. You could also, instead of going to medical school, go into a PhD program at the Rockefeller Research Lab.

What is the best university to go to if you want to be in cancer research??
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NY, M D Anderson in Texas, Stanford in California, Johns Hopkins in Maryland, Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, Duke University in NC, Mass General in Boston - - just to name a few. There are plenty of other very good ones.

Cancer research supporting puppy mills?
Yep I agree. Not only is it negative that they are purchasing a pup from a puppy mill but they are also irresponsible in auctioning a puppy off, potentially encouraging a "impulse purchase" kind of situation.

Unfortunately, like many people out there the organiser of this auction is probably ignorant of how bad puppy mills are. Our only choice is to keep pushing the message that puppy mills are a cruel and unnecessary way of supplying puppys to the pet market. Perhaps you could contact the Wellness Foundation and politely question their understanding of where they are getting the pup from and suggest some alternative ideas.
Reply:I would definately get in touch with the Wellness Foundation and educate them about puppymills. This could do the organization a lot of good, as if it continues, it could give the Wellness Foundation a bad name.
Reply:Well, if they want to do that, who else is going to sell them a pup? No reputable breeder is going to sell a dog with no idea where it will land.

Might be time for a nicely worded letter to them explaining why their well intentioned fund raiser isn't such a great idea.
Reply:It seems odd.... They probably don't know it's a puppy mill-- just a dog store! Ignorance is not bliss......

How much money is spent each year on Cancer research?

Clearly not enough. We should spend as much as it costs in research until a cure is found

Fundraising for cancer research.....?

Hello everyone, i am entering into the relay for life up in british columbia, and i am trying to get donations. If you have any ideas for fundraising, or would like to make a donation yourself, please let me know. You can donate any amount, even $5.00. This is completely legitimate. If you are interested in donating, please visit the site https://www.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/don...

I am a 20 year old, diagnosed may 2006 with a rare cancer, Primitive Neuroectodermal Tumor, most common in young children and adults. I had chemotherapy from may - december 2006, and radiation from january - february 2007. In a week i will be having surgery to remove the tumor, where they will remove part of my sternum, a section of my first, second, third, and fourth ribs, part of my pericardium, and part of my breast tissue. I am hoping to participate in the relay, it definately has a different meaning this year. I will also be donating my tumor for research

Ethics of Cancer Research Industry???

Is Cancer or AIDs Research Industry too big of a money maker to ever be truly cured???

Ethics of Cancer Research Industry???
Because HIV and the multitude of different Cancer's,and the vast and varied way each patient is treated and the age span, from birth to the very old, from every lifestyle, and ethnic and social groups,at every economic level, and how you couldn't possibly "know" for sure that your family would be stricken, one couldn't possibly be involved in a "conspiracy" to keep a secret of that magnitude. It would involve the "worlds" leading universities, research labs, and the best from all medical and scientific minds etc.It wouldn't ever be possible to keep that sort of scandal quiet. Most of us in the Medical field take an oath of "ethical practice",and are devoted life saving, and caring people. Breakthrough's don't come easily, and it takes billions of research dollars to make small headway's. Cancer deaths are going down and "cure "rates are going up every year.Do some research from end of the spectrum,it will be easier to see. Take care. SW RNP

Set up a website and make sure it comes up on all searches for music, theatre, musical theatre, charity, cancer research, events/what's on and the town it's showing in. A website doesn't have to be expensive and it can get a lot of attention if you set it up right.

Send details and tickets to the local papers, TV stations and radio within driving distance of the theatre. If possible, hold a preview a couple of days before the opening night so they can review it in time to maximise ticket sales. A review written on opening night is unlikely to impact sales for at least 2-3 days. if you only have a week's run, that's half your income potential gone. (If you can't hold a press preview, ask them to let you know if they plan to come so you can sell as many unused tickets as possible. Since it's for charity, they may do this.)

Leaflets and posters work best if they're well targeted. First of all, check where you can legally put them, then make sure they're in every place that might reach your audience. Examples are public transport routes to your venue, both vehicles and stops/stations; local churches; malls and stores; public libraries and public buildings; high schools and colleges; doctors, dentists, veterinarians, hairdressers - any place with a waiting area.

Talk to your local cancer charities well ahead of time and ask them to help you by sending information to their supporters, running articles in their newsletters ahead of time and mentioning your musical at all meetings and fundraisers.

Best of luck.

How can I promote my musical "Below Stairs" for Cancer Research?
you could do the race for life which is also for cancer research and carry promo banners. If you have a cancer research shop near you try putting something up in there. Also you could try contacting cancer research, they may help you, may even get on board with the idea.

Race for Life- Cancer Research UK?

I am running in the race for life event at silverstone, northamptonshire (UK) on June 13th.

This is very important to me as my younger brother (aged 13 when he first got it ) has recently recovered from secondary cancer after approx 4 years.

I would love it if you would take a look and let other people know who might want to sponser me. Thank you.

P.S thank you to those who have already sponsered me, it means a lot. xxx

Support Cancer Research - Flawed! ???

No matter how many donations the world makes Cancer is still the number one cause of death under age 85...

(My mother is a Cancer Survivor and I am in no way opposing donating to a cure for cancer; however I would like to make sure I am donating towards a CURE for Cancer and not towards a paid vacation for all not-for-profit organizations.)

According to the financial reports of fiscal year 2006 for the American Cancer Society, Inc:

Total Revenue (unrestricted): $790,066 (in thousands)

Total Expenses (unrestricted): $963,532 (in thousands)

Cancer Research expenses are: $136,357

Fund-Raising expenses (to obtain donations): $207,333

The total amount spent toward Cancer Research (to include prevention) is a measly 14.2%!!!

Does anyone have further information on this subject? I just want to make sure donations are being allocated accordingly... not just 14.2%!

Support Cancer Research - Flawed! ???
Research isn't all they do 14.2 for research, 19.3 for prevention 15.3 for detection/treatment and 20.3 for patient support Their mission Statement:

"The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, THROUGH research, education, advocacy, and service."

Research isn't all they do! 70% of every dollar they take in goes directly toward their mission, of research, education, advocacy, and service. I think that's pretty good.
Reply:They have a lot of over head. Remember that just because they are non profit does not mean they are volunteers. They are not, they pay the majority of their employees and their top employees bring home pretty nice padded salaries. THey have to rent retail space and pay utilities. They have to pay phone lines and the people who do all the calling and they have to pay advertising specialists, they have to pay for the air time for their commercials.

They are a great org when it comes to education, but I prefer to make my donation directly to the facility, hospital or patient so there is no third party taking a cut
Reply:Do you think that research is the only thing necessary in the fight against cancer? It's not. Educating the public plays a HUGE part in the fight against cancer. People need to know what kinds of cancer there is, what the signs and symptoms are, how cancer is treated, they need to know about early detection, cancer screenings, genetics, etc. etc. etc. How is this information going to get out to the public? The American Cancer Society does so much to educate the public about cancer. They take calls everyday from people who have questions and concerns about cancer and need information about doctors, clinics, screenings, payment assistance, etc. etc. etc. They have a very awesome and informative website. Accurate cancer information doesn't come from the minds of minimum wage earners, it comes from medical professionals with years of education, training, and experience.

Cancer research may be you #1 priority and that's great, donate wherever you like. Any and all donations are greatly needed. Just be aware that the fight against cancer is far bigger than the research and the American Cancer Society knows that.

Pancreatic Cancer Research?

Pancreatic cancer is the 4th leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. By the time you notice any symptoms, it's too late (stage 4). Yet, research and funding for pancreatic cancer is very low. (http://www.driveforthemarker.org/pancrea...

Why is this???

Pancreatic Cancer Research?
Probably because no one is fighting for the research and most people with that kind of cancer do not survive or live for very long after being diagnosed. There's lots of activity for the prevention and treatment of breast cancer and prostate cancer. See what you can find out to get the word out about how important it is to research this.
Reply:maybe we should start something... there are local runs.... maryland is having one in october.....

my sister was just diagnosed 7/20... she is finished the chemo and starts radiation next week.

her spirits are great... i do not think she realizes that she is going to die in 20 months..... i m not sure if that is good or bad... any ho.... wear your purple (pancreatic cancer color) and start something on your own!
Reply:You are right about why it's usually fatal.

My brother died of it last year.

The reason it's caught so late is it hides. Symptoms don't usually show till it affects another organ and THAT organ gives symptoms.

Maybe now that Pavarotti died of it more money will come in to fund research into this usually fatal cancer. Often times, people donate to research after someone famous dies. Till then, funding can be a problem.

Christian Cancer research?

Can anyone tell me if they know of any Christian cancer research org.? I just want to find a foundation that does cancer reasearch without the use of embryo stem cells. It doesn't have to be Christian, as long as they do not use embryos that have been aborted. I really want to make a donation for my sister since she has breast cancer, but can't find any good places to donate. Thanks!

Christian Cancer research?
When you say "embryos that have been aborted," do you understand that we're not talking about something that has any resemblance to a human? What's used for stem cell research is fertilized eggs whose cells have yet to differentiate. In other words, all they are is clumps of cells. In fact, I doubt that such a clump of cells could be obtained via abortion. To my knowledge, what is used is eggs that were fertilized in vitro, to be used by women who can't get pregnant any other way. Many eggs are fertilized, but usually all are not used. The unused fertilized eggs can be discarded, or used for research that may ultimately help people with spinal cord injuries, diabetes, and other diseases.
Reply:I'm sorry your sister has cancer.

If you find a research facility to donate to, be my guest, but please understand that you wold do a much better service if you were to give to a research facility who puts your sisters worth above that of some jelly in a petri dish. The good places do the research in the area that shows the most promise, and that is embryonic stem cells.

Here is a question: if the embryonic stem cell researchers announce tomorrow that they have a cure for breast cancer, would you drive your sister to get the cure? I hope so, honey.

I hope your sister is well soon!
Reply:Most stem cell research does not come from aborted babies. Here is some information so that you can make a more informed choice:

Reply:Real-World Successes of Adult Stem Cell Treatments

With increasing frequency, American citizens and others from around the globe are experiencing newfound freedom from disease, affliction, and infirmity. Individuals' lives are forever changed with the strengthened faith and renewed hope that arise from healed bodies and physical restoration. These seemingly miraculous cures are the result of adult stem cell treatments. Yet the debates in the popular media tend to ignore and obscure the medical breakthroughs made by adult stem cell research--success that has conspicuously eluded embryonic stem cell treatments.

HIPPIE MAN,,,Christian Science Does have a place, in fact, it has more of a place than the pseudo science that is currently being taught, whether you choose to accept that..is another matter entirely

Reply:I did it 2 years ago as my sister-in-law died from cancer.I am sponsoring someone or i would sponser you.Good luck to you and your brother.Dont take any notice of people like Witch. they never know when they will need help themselves then they wont be so cocky!
Reply:Hi sorry I can't afford to make a donation at the moment but have posted the link on a couple of forums I use.

Good luck, Mel.
Reply:You go girl you got £5 donation from me with gift aid - good thing yoru doing- hope your bro keeps healthy and strong
Reply:I read some scientists' reports who have done various researches on cancers; claimt that by taking products rich in Xanthones, and continue to take thier cancer drugs or therapy, could help to heal cancer including leukemia and many other cancers.

Mangosteen fruit contains 44types of Xanthones, of which each type has its valuable healing property for certain illness in our body.

If you don't know what is mangosteen and don't know how to use it, pls write to me.

To help your brother, the fastest way and most effective way, is to help his body fight the cancer cells! Whatever researches is too late for him now because cancer cells spread faster than the researchers can find an answer to it.

Xanthones can inhibit the cancer cells from growing and at the same time increase the patient's immunity; while the cancer drugs can help to destroy the cancer cells..

Can you tell me where do you live? If you are living in Asia, it is very easy to find this product, but anyway the world is not so far apart from each other now as every corner of the world is reacheable.

Pls pray hard also!Miracle do happen!

God bless him and you!

Which shops can i buy cancer research badges from?
Cancer research badges? If you really were supporting cancer research or involved with it, you'd KNOW where to get something like that.

Go to the website for the type of cancer you are talking about and see what you need to do to get one.

But, be careful! You might actually have to HELP them to get one.

Then when someone brings it up you can tell them why you did it, and influence more people to join the cause and donate.

If you're really feeling insecure, you could try a wig..

Have you told your boss why you're doing it? Maybe a bandana that will match your shirt? With animals on it!? :]
