What happens to the cells that can trigger cancer to develop? Its for a research paper I'm working on...?

and can you also provide the website you got the info from? thanks =) and, What are some common cancer risk factors and what types of cancer could they lead to? I've already listed some common cancer risk factors, but, I havent found the types of cancer it leads to. Here it is: growing older, tobacco, sunlight, ionizing radiation, certain chemicals and other substances, some viruses and bacteria, certain hormones, family history of cancer, alcohol, poor diet, lack of physical activity, or

being overweight.

Could someone please tell me what types of cancer do they lead to?

Thanks

Cancer is such a broad topic. Your risk factors that you have are a great start, though if you're looking for certain risk factors correlating with cancers, then try checking out the American Cancer Society website. It has lots of great information.

http://www.cancer.org/docroot/CRI/CRI_2_...

Cancers of the lung, mouth, larynx, bladder, kidney, cervix esophagus, and pancreas are related to tobacco use, including cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco, and snuff. Smoking alone causes one-third of all cancer deaths.

Skin cancer is related to unprotected exposure to strong sunlight.

Breast cancer risk factors include several factors: age; changes in hormone levels throughout life, such as age at first menstruation, number of pregnancies, and age at menopause; obesity; and physical activity. Some studies have also shown a connection between alcohol consumption and an increased risk of breast cancer. Also, women with a mother or sister who have had breast cancer are more likely to develop the disease themselves.

While all men are at risk for prostate cancer, several factors can increase the chances of developing the disease, such as age, race, and diet. The chance of getting prostate cancer goes up with age. Prostate cancer is more common among African-American men than among white men. (We do not yet know why this is so.) A high-fat diet may play a part in causing prostate cancer. Also, men with a father or brother who have had prostate cancer are more likely to get prostate cancer themselves.

^ That's just an excerpt of the type of information that you'll find.

Good luck in your research!
Reply:Any substance that disrupts the chemistry of DNA replication can lead to genetic mutations, which can cause cancer. Cancer occurs when cells multiply too fast, and disrupt surrounding tissues. Sunlight can cause skin cancer, smoked tobacco can cause lung cancer, chewing tobacco can cause gum cancer, and most of the other things you listed can lead to almost any type of cancer.
