i mean with all that money and the smartest scientists in the world working on it how has a cure not been found yet, we can grow an ear on a rat but we can't cure the common cold either. It kinda makes me wonder if it has something to do with population control but i don't want to be a conspiracy nut
Where do all the billions of dollars that go to fund cancer and aids research go?
it goes to the people who do research, who donate money to the causes of people on the boards of various group.
for example. if i sit on the board of the ABC cancer organization, a non for profit charity. and i want to be a senator or sit on other companies boards, then say someone from xyz corp, a pharma firm, finds a way to get me a high paying job on their board of friendly corp board, or donates to my political fund. and then i see our charity grants his company some charity money.
im just guessing thats how it works. kinda like when you donate blood and they sell if for $4000/pint. and even though i might think its ghey. as long as they use state of the art equipment, that should be perfectly safe for me, then i don't care.
Reply:why would a rat need another ear?
Nothing to do with population control. EVERYBODY will have a loved one get cancer in their lifetime, if not themselves....this includes cancer researchers.
Research and development for any science is crazy expensive, time and money wise. So that is where the money is going.
If you want to think conspiracy, drop the population control story and use the thought that SO MANY people would lose their jobs if the cure was found. ;-)
Reply:Cancer is actually a group of diseases that all share one theme: uncontrolled cell duplication. Because cancer is not one disease, it is unlikely that there will ever be a single "cure." Even a single type of cancer (i.e., lung) is not realy a single thing -- there is small cell and non-small cell. And subtypes of those.
And the research has paid major dividends. Many types of cancer are less lethal than they were 20 years ago.
As a side note, the "common cold" is also not a single illness but refers to any number of illnesses (primarily viral in nature).
Funding goes to all sorts of things: a) salaries of researchers; b) cost of labs; c) cost of testing, etc.
Reply:Some of it went towards saving my life, I suppose.
You might think about reading a book, and learning something about the nature of the group of diseases we lump together and call "cancer".
And the best reason not to be a "conspiracy nut" is that doctors, nurses %26amp; other healthcare providers all get cancer at the same basic rate as the "public at large"; how could that possibly happen if there were a "conspiracy"?
BTW, Thanks for the "billions of dollars"! I'm worth every penny!
Reply:Well, first, while a certain percentage of donated money goes to helping the patients or research by law, these companies have a huge overheard.
They get things donated whenever possible, but it costs money to put on walks, make and sell bracelets ribbons and all that what not. It also costs money for them ot operate. They have to have office space, employees. A lot of people volunteer their time, but they also always also have paid employees. Non profit doesnt mean no one gets paid. Non profit simply means that they do not keep any money not needed for operation costs.
They also need utilities for their office space, and people to make the phone calls.
In the end, the majority of money donated to a foundation or non profit goes to over head. If you want your money more appropriatly used, donate directly to a hosp, research facility, or private patient.
This has nothing to do with population control. There are no hidden cures. Despite what some people would have you believe, no one will loose money with a cure. The cure will be so expensive 98% of the population wont be able to afford it, meaning they will still be using the old treatment methods.
The common cold cant be cured because it is a bacteria. The bacteria changes naturally, but also grows resistant with every new antibiotic.
Cancer in general and Aids dont have cures because we still dont completly understand exactly what causes them and how they operate. Advances are made daily, and some cancers have possible cures. A stem cell transplant is a possible cure for leukemias, lymphomas, a host of other auto immune diseases and possibly eventually aids as well. I just went through this proceedure in the us paid for by your tax dollars.
It will take several generations before any treatment for either cancer or aids is termed postivly a cure. This is because it is hard to tell if you are really cured. Many people relapse as far out as 20-30 years. Current tests cannot detect a single cancer cell. That cell can lay dormat for years, then suddenly 'wake up'. You were never cured in the first place, only in remission.
I take it you have never been around cancer?
Reply:It goes to the equipment they buy to try to find a cure. All the equipment they need is bought with our money.
