I'm all for the cancer Relay for Life raising money group, but what happens with all the money?

I mean this group is making big bucks. Am I the only one wondering how much is actually going to cancer research and how much is going to pay salaries of the people who started it all. Maybe im way off base here. But in our small town we take in a lot of money. Does anyone really know how the monies collected are used?

There's no denying that some money stays to pay for the salaries of people doing the work, but most of it goes for research grants. People do actually research cancer with that money. It's easy to forget that things like advertising for a fundraiser and catering an event cost money too. I work in research and most labs rely on grants from organizations like this one to do their work. The money is getting used widely for the most part, it's just a sad fact that sometimes people misuse funds.
Reply:Why don't you ask them? When I did the MS 150 bike ride, they gave plenty of pamphlets showing how the money is distributed.
Reply:it really all goes for the Cancer Society. None goes in the pocket.
Reply:i am a cancer survivor and participate in as many walks as possible, the money goes to different foundations, like john hodgkins hosp. for research or childrens hospitals, also, they use some of the money to set up these fundraisers........most are non profit organizations but i'm sure some of the coordinators get a little $$$$
